Scaled Professional Scrum

The Scrum methodology is a leading framework for applying Agile techniques to complex projects or product development, including software development. It has been in us for over 25 years, on individual projects and in companies small and large. Its iterative working methods lead to faster results for teams and more visibility of stakeholder requirements. Scrum has evolved over its lifetime to bring this value to more projects – including larger multi-team projects.

Course Description

Scaled Professional Scrum Course ONLINE

Taking projects larger by scaling Scrum

The Scrum framework is based on a team working together using an iterative and incremental approach to product or project development. This aims to reduce complexity and achieve results faster.

As projects scale, though, there can be added value from bringing several individual Scrum teams together. This is where the Nexus methodology comes in. A Nexus is a group of Scrum teams that work together under a single Product Owner to deliver a joint product.

Nexus builds upon Scrum's foundation and extends the principles and techniques for teams to work together better. This will scale the value that a group of Scrum teams can deliver.

Scaled professional scrum training with Nexus

Scaling teamwork brings several challenges. The Scrum and Nexus frameworks seek to overcome, and training will help teams perform better as projects scale up.

Nexus helps to reduce cross-team dependencies, preserve self-management and ensure accountability. Setting the correct product structure and team communication strategy is critical to this. As with introductory Scrum knowledge, scrum training and practical experience is the best way to understand this.

The course involves theoretical as well as practical training. Participants will be involved in simulating a large software development project using the Nexus framework. This will simulate a scaled software development project across several teams. Students will be involved in launching and structuring the project and resolving common issues that arise as it progresses.  The training will introduce more than 50 practices that can help progress projects.

Course contents and key objectives

Course participants will learn the following:

  • How Scrum can be scaled for larger projects using the Nexus framework.

  • The details of the Nexus framework, how to organize teams, and set up and manage projects.

  • Common troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques for projects.

  • How to identify, minimize and remove dependencies between different teams, and optimize team productivity.

  • Practices to help teams efficiently build an integrated software product.

Expected Outcomes from Scaled professional scrum training

Participants will understand the Scrum and Nexus frameworks and be able to apply these to larger, multiple team projects. As a practical, scenario-based course, participants will know how to manage such projects and be able to handle problems as they arise.

Who should attend training?

The course is recommended for anyone working in scaled product or software development using Agile techniques and Scrum. Particularly, project managers, development leads, and managers involved in large Scrum projects should attend training.
