They introduce a more flexible, faster approach to complex projects and better reflect the nature of businesses today. As with any major change, though, implementing Agility for teams takes work. Project management training courses are a great way to get the whole team up to speed with the best methods.

The Need For Project Management Courses

Project management courses helping with transforming to an Agile way of working is no easy task. It requires knowledge, commitment, and supportive frameworks for change to work. Teams need to work and collaborate in different ways from traditional projects. Hierarchies are flatter, teams are largely self-managing, and project tasks need to be broken down and prioritised in a very different way.

For Agile methods to show the best results, everyone involved needs to be committed to the approach, working the same way and speaking the same language. Agile methods introduce an iterative approach to project progression. For this to work, everyone needs to be aware of the differences to their work, results and project measurement.

Training in Agility

General training provides those involved with an introduction to the benefits and differences of Agility. Such training is also beneficial to other teams, project managers or stakeholders who interact with Agile teams. They may not need to understand implementation specifics but will benefit from understanding how Agile projects are different.

Professional agile leadership essentials (PAL-E) training is designed to help managers, and other leaders, understand how to approach an Agile transformation and to guide teams to be successful.

Scrum training for a practical approach

Most Agile teams use an established framework to implement Agility. Scrum is the most popular such framework and has been in use for over 25 years. It formalises Agility with projects following a fixed series of iterations or Sprints. Scrum uses well-established methods to break up work into distinct iterations and to produce usable results each time. Defined and robust team communication methods support this.

Applying Professional Scrum (APS) is an excellent introductory training course for anyone working on a Scrum project. It will teach the practical implementation of Scrum and how to work using Sprints.

There is no traditional project manager within Scrum. The framework does define specific key roles, though, and training can assist those who take on these. Professional Scrum Master I (PSMI) training helps train the Scrum Master. This is a role similar to a project facilitator, supporting the team with Scrum theory and project progression.

Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) training teaches the skills and tools for the essential role of Product Owner. This includes defining and managing project tasks and interacting with project stakeholders.

More advanced Project Management Training Courses

For those that become more involved in Agile projects, additional training can take skills further. Some courses build on the core training by giving the chance to learn from new scenarios. In particular, there are courses available for the main roles within a Scrum project that aim to build up key skills – including Professional Scrum Master II (PSMII) and Professional Scrum Product Owner Advanced (PSPO-A).

Other courses introduce adapted Scrum methods for specific situations. Applying Professional Scrum – Software Development (APS-SD) introduces specifics of Scrum for software development projects. Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS) shows how the Scrum framework can be modified for larger projects within multiple Scrum teams.

Beyond Scrum Theory

As active Agile Scrum Consultants, we not only teach the theory of Scrum but go far beyond, bringing real-life practical examples that teach students how to apply what they learn.

Students absorb concepts through live and past scenarios to embed Scrum theory into the muscle. By teaching out loud, we frequently debrief the training exercise so attendees pick up the facilitation techniques that we find so successful in the field.

Our students leave our training as confident, skilled practitioners with a deep understanding of Why they use Agile and the Scrum framework as well as HOW to apply it. This is why our students regularly rate us 5 stars on trust pilot for our Scrum Training.
